His still keen eyes took in my crying baby. His worn hand reached out to soothe the frenzy of tears. And then his tender smile wound itself around my tired spirit as he spoke.
“Goes fast. The tears he cries today, you’ll dry. The tears you cry tomorrow, he’ll cause. But those tears are all an opportunity to love. Don’t miss out on that just because it’s hard.”
And then he took his walker and slowly moved off in the other direction, leaving his imprint on my heart. Because that aged war veteran had seen battle in his life…
…and he’d learned some things are simply worth fighting for.
