Kwan, 16

Kwan came to us when she was 13 (2021) and she'll be 17 by year's end. Watching her grow, and stretch, and lean into becoming an adult has been a joy and privilege. Interestingly, I believe Kwan is the only of our kids who asked to come live here out of a desire for protection from that which she saw the girls in her village falling into. We're endlessly thankful her family entrusted her to us.

Her Story

Each child's story is their own to tell so we share only the parts that are appropriate. In time, we believe the testimony that God is giving them is something they'll share to help and encourage others. Until that time, we will share those things which aren't too deeply personal but will still give you insight into the hearts and minds of these young people God has sent to us.

October 2024 Update

School is out (for the term) for Kwan but her work continues because she has a project her teacher wants her to complete this week. She is a 4.0 student and she'll work until she feels like she can't improve on it anymore.

It's no exaggeration to say that I don't know what we'd do without Kwan. She is a leader by nature and she has the ability to set the tone for the kids around her. That used to be something we struggled with so much but as she's matured and really pressed into her desire to know and obey God, it's something we are immensely grateful for. Her leadership qualities save us so many problems we'd otherwise be faced with because the kids follow her lead and she's learning to lead well.

Her quick grasp of English, and her ability and willingness to use it even when she feels shy, has been a powerful force for good on our campus. She and Namwan take turns translating our sermons into Thai each week. And in the youth class of our children's division at church, she translates for me and helps to pull the other kids back if they start to get distracted.

About a month ago, God enabled us to buy instruments for the children to learn to play. Kwan chose piano and she has faithfully been practicing and making steady progress. Her voice can often be heard from the front of church or family worship as she helps lead singing or shares a special offering of music with the other girls.

Don't be mistaken, though, because Kwan is nothing if she's not a bowl full of personality. She's quirky and funny and she's quick to laugh and play. And this girl has got a facial expression for every occasion!
