Gauv, 11
There was never a day, even from the beginning, that this little man was scared of us. He walked through our door that June day of 2020 and strode through the house like he'd finally made it home. He wasn't wrong.
His Story
Each child's story is their own to tell so we share only the parts that are appropriate. In time, we believe the testimony that God is giving them is something they'll share to help and encourage others. Until that time, we will share those things which aren't too deeply personal but will still give you insight into the hearts and minds of these young people God has sent to us.
October 2024 Update
Adorable is a word often overused but there's just not a word that describes Gauv more accurately. It's not just his full, dimpled cheeks or his playful eyes or delightful laugh. It's the way he loves even when everything around him is unfamiliar. It's how he embraces change, how he seeks out a hug, and how tender he is to the conviction that he's done wrong.

We'd be in Thailand only about 9 months when he came to live with us with his sister, Fahsai, and we still spoke very little Thai. Gauv spoke no English and yet he starting translating for the other 4 Thai children living with us ... we would speak in English and he'd repeat it to them in Thai. It took a bit to realize what he was doing but suddenly it clicked and we were so curious as to the accuracy. So we asked our neighbor, who was fluent in both Thai and English, to come quietly observe and tell us if his translation matched our words. She listened in and informed us that he was telling them exactly what we were saying. But how? There's no question, it was the Holy Spirit whispering into Gauv's ear. Today, Gauv speaks Thai, Hmong and English.

He's a favorite among all the children and no doubt it's because of his sweet and gentle ways. He started to learn guitar a month or so ago and he's making fabulous progress. He played for worship not long ago and he was so nervous he thought he was going to pass out. But he played well and breathed a sigh of relief while flashing that smile that reminds us God knit us together as family long before we ever met him.
