Jing, 11

He came two days after Gauv and Fahsai, who interestingly became family when their parents married not long later. We call him Jingle Bell and what stands before us now is a boy who loves to be loved even though it's been a journey getting to this place.

His Story

Each child's story is their own to tell so we share only the parts that are appropriate. In time, we believe the testimony that God is giving them is something they'll share to help and encourage others. Until that time, we will share those things which aren't too deeply personal but will still give you insight into the hearts and minds of these young people God has sent to us.

October 2024 Update

Some of my first memories of Jing was him riding a bike with wild abandon and then intentionally running it into the brick wall across from our house. He'd crash, back up, and then repeat the whole thing. We had no idea what was compelling him to behave in such a way and we really had no idea how to stop it. He didn't know how to interact with kids or adults, including us.

I honestly don't know when or how it happened, but I can tell you for certain, God had no intention of leaving Jing as he was. SO even though our attempts were futile, God has worked tirelessly to win him over and change his heart. He's playful, and funny, and chatty in ways we didn't think he was capable of from those early days where he didn't seem to know how to talk at all.

Jing is also learning guitar and, like the others, has picked it up quickly. The sense of accomplishment he's gotten from that is helping us realize he, like everyone, thrives when given the opportunity to spread his wings to try new things. God sees our little Jingle Bell and He's teaching him what He wants him to know as he inches his way toward manhood.

Not much of a fan of school, Jing was well pleased when the term ended last week. He's filling his days learning how to behave during evacuation where we're a little cramped in a small house and he's making strides in answering a deeper call to helpfulness. He was quite proud today when he and the other boys were tasked with walking all the trash down the little alley to the bins.
